From Villajoyosa (La Vila Joiosa), the capital of the region of Marina Baixa, also known as "La Vila", we can see the peaks of the sierras of Aitana and Puig Campana, a natural barrier that shelters the region from northern winds, making the temperatures of this area very pleasant all year round. The walled historic quarter, next to the Amadorio river, has a gorgeous shore, lined with colourful houses, designed that way so that sailors could spot them from their ships. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de Asunción is a Gothic building that preserves an interesting Baroque reredos. In the afternoon, a visit to the port will provide the opportunity to experience the lively auctions of fish and seafood caught during the day. La Vila has three kilometres and a half worth of beaches, such as Centro, Paradís, and specially De Torres, with crystal waters, where we also find the archaeological sites of the tower of the Cross and the tower of Saint Joseph, the latter being popularly known as the tower of Hercules. The Real Alcázar in Seville is a group of palaces surrounded by a wall. Peter the Cruel rebuilt the old Almohad building to establish a royal residence in the 14th century. It has contributions from all periods, although Mudejar and Renaissance styles are predominant. The use of the Upper Palace, on the upper level of the Mudejar Palace, is administered by National Heritage. It includes: the foyer, built in the times of the Catholic Monarchs; the oratory of the Catholic Monarchs; the banquet all built during the reign of Philip II of Spain; the viewpoint of the Catholic Monarchs, influenced by Granada and built subsequent to 1492, the bedroom of Peter of Castile, which is one of the rooms from the 14th-century Mudejar palace; and the official or audience chamber. The courtyards of Cordoba are a living tradition dating back to Roman times, and which continued throughout the Arab presence until being handed down to us today. The traditional houses in the city are noted for their courtyards surrounded by whitewashed walls adorned with hanging flowerpots filled with colourful geraniums, jasmine, carnations and orange blossom. Throughout the days of the Festival, most of the courtyards in the old part of town throw their doors open to the public, and often feature flamenco shows and the chance to sample the delicious tapas of Cordoba, accompanied by a glass of Montilla-Moriles sherry. Peratallada is known for its beautiful old stone buildings, rutted stone streets and passageways. Its proximity to the beaches of the Costa Brava and its numerous restaurants, small boutique hotels and artists' galleries make it a popular destination. The 1991 film "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was partly filmed on location here.
